    Sluggish checkout from remote sites

What are some of the things I should check if my checkouts are sluggish ( minutes in stead of seconds ) from a remote site?

I have checked ping time to shared server and that is faster than my home fileserver which is quick.

    Thanks,

    Hi dmeeks,

If you are storing the shared project on a network drive and using VPN to connect, the shared project actions are slow. For much faster remote access to a shared project, we recommend storing the shared project on an SVN server. This was enabled in 5.1 (which is a free update if you are licensed for 5.0).

There is a some information about this at the bottom of this article: http://www.axure.com/p401_1.aspx

Victor, Thanks but not just VPN. Remote interoffice connections as well.

    What we have done:

Checked version of tool. 5,0 - OKAY

    Checked basic configuration. OKAY

    Checked network connectivity. OKAY

Checked share manager. Took 10 mins to update. Should take 10 - 30 seconds.

Checked get history. OKAY - Took < 20 seconds at 100 records.

Moved large file from c: to mapped drive. OKAY - Took < 3 seconds which is general fileserver performance

Checked 'check in' process on file

File check in itself took > 10 mins

    Monitored network performance

Spiked first 3 secs or so

    Flat ( less than 1% ) remaining 10 mins

    Application 'Axure goes Non Responsive'

Minor network handshake last few seconds

Hi dmeeks, Thank you for the data. I'm not sure why it's taking so long over the interoffice connection, but if we find out anything new, I'll post back here. My guess is that it's the same reason SVN on a network drive is slow across VPN. If you try setting up an SVN server to store the project, could you let me know if that improved the performance over your network?

I'm having the same problem as well, checking out from within the office works perfectly, checking out remotely from home works for the first say 10 pages or so,  then it freezes and nothing can done about it.

I have an SVN client and it working perfectly even for the shared svn repo of axure, I just checked out the repository using TortoiseSVN and it checked out at full connection speed.

What information do you need to help diagnose the root of this problem? its extremely annoying since I practically can't work from anywhere but the office.

    Hi tumbak,

To confirm, you have an Axure RP shared project stored on an SVN server. And checking out 10 or more pages from a remote location is slow or freezes?

If so, this is different than the typical issue connecting remotely. Typically, the remote slowness is because the shared project is stored on a network drive. Switching to the SVN server usually resolves that issue.

Is this consistent or does it happen sporadically? Do you get any error messaging when it freezes? Does it eventually finish the checkout?
