Axure turned 16 this month, which gave us occasion to reflect a bit. We’ve had eight major releases of Axure RP during this time, the latest of which—Axure RP 8—has been our most successful product to date. We followed it up with Axure RP 8.1 and a significant update for Axure Share, our prototype-sharing service. And speaking of Axure Share, our current release cycle has also seen the debut of Axure Share Enterprise, a behind-the-firewall version of the service, which has been particularly popular with our customers in the finance and health services industries.

Now, let’s talk about what’s next.

We’ve recently published a page introducing Axure RP 9, which we hope to release in beta this summer. Version 9 will be a massive step forward for the tool, comprising a wide-ranging set of improvements: a comprehensive UI overhaul, new design and documentation features, and an unprecedented degree of under-the-hood optimization. We’ve totally gutted and rebuilt the architecture of the Windows version—our third such re-architecture since version 1—in order to make it significantly faster on modern hardware. On the other end of the spectrum, our UI redesign has touched every dialog and menu while paying particular attention to the interaction builder. We’ve preserved Axure RP’s robust interaction capabilities while significantly simplifying their use.

Regarding upgrades for current license holders: if you bought your perpetual license of Axure RP in calendar year 2018—or if you buy one at any point going forward—your upgrade to version 9 will be free. Customers with current subscription licenses will of course also get access to the upgrade.

We’ll be going into more detail about each of the areas of focus for RP 9 in a series of upcoming blog posts. If you’d like to make sure you see them (including the beta announcement!), at the bottom of this page.

As always, thanks so much for all of your support and feedback—it’s what has gotten us to 16 years, and it’s what has made Axure RP 9 possible. We’re looking forward to taking this next step forward right alongside you.
